We drove from Florida to Alaska in a mini-van that we semi-converted.

After watching lots of Youtube videos on how to build a platform bed this one worked the best for us.

Other main items for conversion & daily use were:

  • Microwave from Home Depot

  • Bodega 12v 53 quart refrigerator

  • Jackery 1000-Watt Generator which plugs into your car & powers everything

  • We built a shelf for the Jackery & microwave using wood & screws from Home Depot

  • We sized the platform to fit this folding mattress

  • We left about 11"under the bed & labeled 10 clear bins from Walmart where we stored food, clothing, medicines & all of our travel needs

  • See other items on the "Packing" & "Modifications" pages

  • We since bought a Winnebago Travato 59KL van that we love, but the mini-van was a good test for us to see how we liked being on the road

About Us

We (Dr. Z and Me) started road tripping in August of 2021.  We semi converted a mini-van and drove from Florida to Alaska.  After passing many RV & camper vans along the way, we decided to buy a Winnebago Travato 59KL van. We travelled all 50 states (Hawaii by plane) and all of the Canadian provinces. After putting tons of miles on it we traded it in for a Grand Design Lineage 31ZW. RV travel is the best decision we've ever made! Our journeys are logged here.  #lifeishort
